Creating Events

Set up a new event with dates, workflow mode, and assignment settings.

Events are the core unit in Signplanr. Each event represents a real-world occasion where signs need to be installed, tracked, and verified. You create an event to define the scope of work before adding signs, maps, and contractors.

How to create an event

  1. From the Dashboard, click Create Event.
  2. Enter an Event Name (required). Use something your team will recognise, like "Summer Festival 2026" or "Building A Refit".
  3. Set a Start Date (required). This is the date work begins or the event takes place.
  4. Optionally set an End Date. Leave it blank for ongoing or open-ended events.
  5. Add an optional Description to give contractors and team members context about the event.
  6. Choose a Workflow Modesimple, approval, or multi_stage. See Event Settings and Workflows for details on each mode.
  7. Choose an Assignment Modeall (every contractor sees every sign) or assigned (contractors only see signs assigned to them).
  8. Optionally link a Customer — pick the end-customer this event is for, or leave as No customer. See Assigning customers to events for the full flow, including how to create a new customer inline.
  9. Click Create Event.

Your new event opens in draft status. You can add signs, upload maps, and configure settings before making it visible to contractors.

Not sure which workflow mode to pick? Start with simple — you can change it later in event settings.

What to do next

Once your event exists you can:

  • Add signs manually or via bulk CSV import.
  • Open the Sign types sub-page to curate which types are available on this event. If your org has auto-pin on (the default), every library type is already available; turn auto-pin off in Settings → General → Sign type library if you'd rather pin per event.
  • Upload maps and place signs on them.
  • Invite contractors to start installation work.
  • Move the event to active status when you're ready to go live.
