Sign Number Prefixes

Add an optional prefix to sign numbers for clearer identification.

Sign number prefixes let you add a consistent label to the beginning of every sign number in an event. This makes it easier to identify which event or zone a sign belongs to, especially when your organisation runs multiple events at the same time.

How prefixes work

You set a prefix string at the event level, and Signplanr prepends it to each sign's auto-generated number. For example, if you set the prefix to "A-", a sign numbered 042 displays as A-042 throughout the app, in exports, and on QR code labels.

Setting a prefix

  1. Open the event and go to Settings.
  2. Find the Sign Number Prefix field.
  3. Enter your prefix string (e.g. "A-", "FEST-", or "B2-").
  4. Click Save.

All existing and future signs in the event reflect the updated prefix immediately.

Manual overrides

You can override the generated sign number on any individual sign. Open the sign detail page, edit the Sign Number field, and enter any value you like. Overridden numbers must still be unique within the event.

Keep prefixes short — two to four characters work best. Long prefixes make sign numbers harder to read on printed labels and mobile screens.

Uniqueness rules

Every sign number (prefix + number) must be unique within its event. Signplanr prevents you from saving a duplicate. If you change the prefix and it causes a collision with a manually overridden number, you are prompted to resolve the conflict before saving.
