The map editor is where you place, move, and inspect signs on your image maps. It is built on a canvas-based engine that supports smooth panning, zooming, and direct interaction with sign pins.

The sidebar sign list

The left sidebar shows all signs in the current event. Each entry displays the sign number, type, and status. Signs that are already placed on the current map show a map pin icon next to their name.

  • Click a sign in the sidebar to pan the map to its location (if placed).
  • Drag a sign from the sidebar onto the map to place it.
  • Filter the list by status, type, or search by sign number using the filter bar at the top.

The sign preview popover

Click any pin on the map to open a preview popover anchored just above it. The popover gives you a quick look at the sign without leaving the map:

  • Sign number and name.
  • Current status, with a coloured indicator dot.
  • Sign type (if one is assigned).
  • A photo thumbnail — the sign's main photo, loaded when the popover opens. If there are no photos yet, you'll see a placeholder.

From the popover you can act on the sign:

  • Open — go to the sign's full detail page.
  • More (⋯) — a menu with Duplicate, Move pin ("Drag the pin to move it"), Transfer to map (when the event has other maps), and Remove from map.

Only one popover shows at a time — clicking a survey pin closes the sign popover and vice versa. Click the X, or click empty space on the map, to dismiss it.

The same actions are also on the sidebar quick-action buttons when a sign is selected — use whichever is closer to hand.

Sidebar quick actions

When a sign is selected, the sidebar shows quick action buttons in this order:

  • Detail — open the full sign detail page.
  • Duplicate — create an in-place copy of the selected sign on the same map. The new copy is unplaced and ready to drop — the next click on the map places it. See Duplicating signs for what gets copied.
  • Remove — remove the sign from the map (the sign itself is not deleted).
  • Transfer — move the sign to a different map in the same event.

Double-click a pin to jump directly to the sign's full edit page without going through the detail panel.

Zoom to fit

Click the Fit button in the toolbar to zoom the map so all placed signs are visible at once. This is helpful when you have signs spread across a large area.
