Sign IDs

Give signs the IDs from your own schedule. Signs sharing an ID are numbered as instances automatically.

Signplanr numbers every sign in an event (A-042, GF-007). Your project usually has its own naming — the IDs on the sign schedule, such as N21Aw-1 or ID10w-7. The Sign ID field holds that ID so the plan, the list and the exports use the names your team and client already know.

Adding a Sign ID

The Sign ID field is on the sign create and edit forms. It is optional, up to 120 characters, and matched exactly (case-sensitive), so N21Aw-1 and n21aw-1 are different IDs.

When you create several copies at once, every copy gets the same Sign ID and its own instance number.

Instance numbers

Where several signs in an event share a Sign ID, each is numbered as an instance:

Numbers are allocated automatically and fill the lowest free slot, so deleting _2 and adding another sign with the same ID gives the new sign _2. The edit form shows the current instance under the field (for example Currently N21Aw-1_2). You never type the _N yourself except in a CSV file.

Changing a sign's ID gives it a fresh instance number under the new ID. Duplicating a sign keeps its ID and gets the next instance.

Where it shows

  • Signs list — a Sign ID column between Name and Type. Search matches Sign IDs too.
  • Sign page — an ID line in the header.
  • Map — the pin popover shows the ID, and in Design view the label tag can show it.
  • Design Map PDF — a Sign ID column in the schedule, sorted by Sign ID.
  • Field app — when the event's Field app label is set to Sign ID, contractors see it on pins and in their list.

CSV import and export

Export writes a Sign ID column with the full label, for example N21Aw-1_2, so an export re-imports with the same labels.

Import accepts a column headed Sign ID (also recognised: sign id, sign_id, sign code, sign_code, code, id). Each value can be:

  • N21Aw-1 — the ID; the instance number is allocated on import.
  • N21Aw-1_2 — the ID with an explicit instance. If that instance already exists in the event, or appears twice in the file, the row is flagged in the preview so you can fix it before importing.

Signs detected from a plan by AI plan import keep the code read from the drawing as their Sign ID.
