Inviting Customer Users
Give an end-client their own login so they can request signs, review artwork and approve installs.
A customer user is your end-client with their own Signplanr login. They use the same mobile app as your installers, but they see a different job: the signs you have shared with them, the artwork waiting on their approval, and the installs ready for sign-off.
Do not confuse this with a customer record. A customer record (under Customers in the sidebar) is a client company you tag events and signs against — it has no login and is on every plan. A customer user is a person with a login. This article is about the second one.
Availability
Customer users are part of the customer portal, available on the Business and Enterprise plans. Business includes 1 customer user; Enterprise is custom.
Seats are counted across your whole organisation, not per event — the same person added to five events is still one seat. Anyone who is also a member of your organisation does not consume a customer seat at all. You can see your usage on Org → Billing, and on the event's Contractors page.
Inviting someone
- Open the event and go to Contractors in the event menu.
- Click Invite.
- Enter their Email address.
- Under Invite as, choose Customer instead of Install contractor.
- Click Send invitation.
Only owners and admins can invite. If your plan does not include the portal, the Customer option is shown as Customer (Business+) and is disabled.
Access codes never create customer users. Anyone who joins with an access code becomes a contractor. A customer login only comes from an email invitation sent with the role set to Customer.
What they receive
- Someone new to your organisation gets an email subject-lined "You've been invited to review signage for " with an Accept invitation button. The link expires after 14 days. If they do not have an account yet, they are walked through sign-up first, then land on a page headed Join as a customer.
- Someone who has already worked with your organisation is added straight away and gets "You've been added to " — no acceptance step.
Where they appear afterwards
On the event's Contractors page, customer users get their own Customer users card, separate from your installers, each with a Customer badge and how they joined (Invited, Added). Pending invitations show under Pending Invitations and can be resent or revoked from there. Organisation-wide, they are listed under Org → Members on the Customers tab.
To take access away, use the row menu and choose Remove from event. That removes all of their sign links on that event.
Being invited is not the same as being able to see signs
This trips people up. Inviting someone to the event gives them a login and puts them on the event — it does not show them any signs. A customer user sees a sign only when they are linked to that specific sign.
After inviting, go to each sign you want them to see and add them on the Customers card. See Linking a Customer to a Sign.
To let them request signs
Requesting signs and reviewing artwork also needs the Design phase switched on for that event, under Event → Settings. Without it, a customer user can still see linked signs, add photos and comments, and approve or reject the install — but there is no Request a sign button and no artwork review step. See The Design Phase and the Design / Install Tabs.
