Ready for Print and the Design Lock
What freezes when a sign is marked ready for print, what keeps working, and how to reopen it.
Once the customer has approved the artwork and you click Mark ready for print, the sign's design is locked. Nothing about the design can change by accident between approval and the printer — which is the whole point of getting an approval in the first place.
Availability
The design lock is part of the design phase, available on the Business and Enterprise plans. It applies to signs at design status Ready for print or Sent to print.
What you see
An amber banner on the sign's Design card:
Design locked — request details, artwork and faces are read-only while the sign is ready for / sent to print.
The Edit sign button in the Actions card and the Edit request button on the Request card both disappear, and the artwork upload, replace, delete and version controls go with them.
If something tries to edit a locked sign anyway, it is refused with: "This sign's design is locked (ready for / sent to print). Reopen the design to edit it."
What is frozen
- The request details — sign name, description, width, height, material and Attaching to
- The whole Edit request dialog
- Artwork: uploading, replacing, deleting and restoring earlier versions
- Faces: adding, renaming, deleting, reordering and syncing from the sign type
What still works
The install half of the sign carries on as normal:
- Sign status changes, including approve and reject
- Contractor assignments
- Install photos
- Due dates
- The install reference guide
- Comments
- The QR code
- Linking and unlinking customers
That split is deliberate. A locked sign is still an install job — your crews can work it, photograph it and get it signed off while the design stays exactly as the customer approved it.
Bulk actions
Bulk edits that touch design fields skip locked signs and tell you how many were skipped. Bulk edits that only touch install fields apply to everything, locked or not. The same applies to bulk artwork upload — locked signs are left alone.
Reopening a locked sign
From the Design card:
- At Ready for print, click Reopen design. The sign returns to In design and everything unfreezes.
- At Sent to print, click Undo sent to print first, then Reopen design.
Neither needs a note.
Reopening means the artwork can change again. If the customer already approved it, send the new version back through Send for review so their approval matches what actually gets printed.
